Colours of the Year 2023 - a round up

At varying times during the autumn/winter season, big interiors brands that we know and love will release their Colour of the Year for the following year. So what does this really mean? Should we all paint our houses in the colour of the year to make sure we’re on trend? Should we be adding that pop of colour into our interiors to make sure we have our finger on the pulse? In my view, absolutely not!

One of the most popular questions I get asked is “what’s in?” To me, ‘in colours’ can help as a guide to what is popular at the time, but the colours you choose should speak to you as an individual and as Marie Kondo says, “spark joy for you”. You’re the one who’s going to be surrounded by it, appreciate it, feel inspired by it or (hopefully not) hate it.

Pantone is the OG of trend setting colours, and the main instigator of the colours we see on the catwalk every season. About 6 to 12 months later, we may start to see that colour pop up in the interiors world. This year’s Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 is Viva Magenta. Which to be fair, could be a fabulous pop of colour in any room.

Dulux have opted for a more pared back tone, and their Dulux Colour of the Year 2023 is Wild Wonder. It’s described as a glowing natural yellow tone that offers us a connection with nature and that brings a sense of natural magic into our homes.

Stepping into a more bold colour zone, Benjamin Moore has chosen Raspberry Blush as their Colour of the Year. A vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink, this electric hue is the definition of charismatic color.

Led by research showing that homeowners want their home to be a place where they can unwind, Behr have chosen Blank Canvas as their Colour of the Year. It’s a rich and versatile shade of off white, and shades such as this can add a positive vibe to your home as well as lowering stress levels.
