5 Times ‘Stiffkey Blue’ Was The Right Interior Colour Choice

Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue is one of those ‘love it or hate it’ colours in a room. It’s an inky blue which appears more blue than navy when used in well lit spaces, but has the effects of a cosy embrace when using low light in the evenings.

For those who prefer to stick to neutral interiors, it might seem a little dramatic. But for those who are willing to take a risk (it’s only paint…), it’s definitely worth considering for your next home interiors project.

1. The blue in this living room is enhanced through the use of a blue corner sofa, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming as it’s broken up by a warm white paint hue over the picture rail, bright artwork on the walls and pops of colour in the cushions.

2. Stiffkey Blue looks more navy than blue in this hallway. It’s a good example of how much the colour changes in different lights compared to the living room above. It’s a beautifully bold statement on entering the home, but paired with white as well as natural materials such as the oak stairs, tiles and doormat, it’s a perfect balance.

3. North facing rooms such as this living room get a lot less sunlight than south facing rooms and can tend to wash out very pale colours. Rather than trying to fight the naturally blue light, this room has been enhanced by embracing the blue on the walls and in the cushions. Using pops of yellow and gold, it feels far from washed out and oozes cosiness by night.

4. When choosing Stiffkey Blue, it doesn’t need to be an entire room. You could add some depth to a neutral or white kitchen by choosing it for your island, like in this beautiful space above. Stunning.

5. This bedroom design uses Stiffkey Blue perfectly by placing it on the fireplace feature wall and enhancing it with the navy blue bed linen. It doesn’t feel too overpowering when balanced with the white walls around it, the texture of the herringbone wardrobe and the accents of gold.
